March Movie Madness 01


The Time Traveler's Wife, Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at 12:10 pm!

To kick off March Movie Madness, Brown Library will be showing the hit book-to-movie adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger. The Time Traveler's Wife is a 2009 film based on Audrey Niffenegger's 2003 novel of the same name. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke and stars Eric Bana and Rache McAdams. Based on the premise of The Time Traveler's Wife, Chicago librarian Henry (Bana) has a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel randomly. Though he often disappears from her life for long periods of time, he tries to build a romantic relationship with Clare, an artist (McAdams). Wonderfully romantic, this film is for anyone who believes love can cross all boundaries.

The movie will begin at 12:10 pm, and as always, make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early, as our seating is limited! YA Board Meeting 03

Brown Library Youth Advisory Board
The monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd, was a huge success. The teens signed up to help with some special events going on at the library in March, including helping with promotion, planning, and supervision. Here's a sneak preview of what's coming up:

March 12th - Doctor's Seuss's birthday party
March 19th - Diary of a Wimpy Kid party
March 26th - New Moon DVD release party

Not only that, but the kids are working on book reviews, and volunteering their time to the library to help keep us all straight.

February Movie Madness 03

A Raisin in the Sun, Friday, February 26th, 2010 at 4:30 pm!

Second up for Brown Library's celebration of Black History Month is A Raisin in the Sun. A Raisin in the Sun is a 2008 television movie directed by Kenny Leon. The teleplay by Paris Qualles is based on the award-winning 1959 play of the same name by Lorraine Hansberry. The film debuted at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and was broadcast by ABC on February 25, 2008. According to Nielsen Media Research, the program was watched by 12.7 million viewers and ranked #9 in the ratings for the week ending March 2, 2008. In the movie an African-American family struggles with poverty, racism, and inner conflict as they strive for a better way of life. Starring Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs, Sanaa Lathan, and Phylicia Rashad, this film is rated PG-13.

February Movie Madness 02


This Is It, Friday, February 19th, 2010 at 4:15 pm!

In honor of Black History Month, Brown Library will be showing a couple of movies depicting strong African Americans. First up is Michael Jackon's This Is It. A 2009 American documentary-concert film directed by Kenny Ortega that documents Michael Jackson's rehearsals and preparation for the concert series of the same name scheduled to start on July 13, 2009, but canceled due to his death eighteen days prior on June 25. This film is now the highest grossing concert movie and documentary in the history of cinema.

The movie will start at 4:15 pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes in advance, as seating is limited! This film is rated PG for some suggestive choreography and scary images.
