May Movie Madness!

Hachi, Friday, May 21st, 2010, at 5 p.m.!

For the last movie before our Summer Reading Program begins, Brown Library will be showing the heart-warming Hachi on Friday, May 21st, starting at 5 p.m.

"An American adaptation of a Japanese tale about a loyal dog named Hachiko. This very special friend would accompany his master to the train station every day and return each afternoon to greet him after work. Sadly his master departs one day, passes away and never returns to the station. Hachiko faithfully returns to the same spot at the station the very next day, and every day for the next nine years to wait for his beloved master. During his daily visits, Hachiko touches the lives of many who work near and commute through the town square. He teaches the local people love, compassion and above all unyielding loyalty. Today, a bronze statue of Hachiko sits in his waiting spot outside the Shibuya station in Japan as a permanent reminder of his devotion and love."

There is no sign-up required to attend the movie, but there is limited seating, so make sure to arrive at least fifteen minutes early to guarantee yourself a good seat! This film is rated G.

May Movie Madness!

Sherlock Holmes, Saturday, May 8th, 2010, at 12:15 p.m.!

Brown Library is kicking off May Movie Madness with a bang! We will be showing the blockbuster action film, Sherlock Holmes, on Saturday, May 8th, 2010, at 12:15 p.m.

"After finally catching serial killer and occult "sorcerer" Lord Blackwood, legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson can close yet another successful case. But when Blackwood mysteriously returns from the grave and resumes his killing spree, Holmes must take up the hunt once again. Contending with his partner's new fiancée and the dimwitted head of Scotland Yard, the dauntless detective must unravel the clues that will lead him into a twisted web of murder, deceit, and black magic - and the deadly embrace of temptress Irene Adler."

"Sherlock Holmes is a 2009 action mystery film based on the character of the same name created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The film was directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law portray Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively. Holmes investigates a series of murders, apparently connected to occult rituals. Lord Blackwood is the mysterious villain. The story culminates with a confrontation on top of Tower Bridge, still under construction.

The film went on general release in the United States on December 25, 2009, and on December 26, 2009, in the UK, Ireland, and the Pacific. The film was also nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Original Score and Best Art Direction."
